Shut up and Hide (2025)
A Memoir
Painting a picture of her own childhood, Tete Loeper creates a journey inside the heart of a child caught in the unimaginable horrors of the Genocide against the Tutsi. One moment, Tete was playing hide and seek with her friends, laughing and feeling safe in the warmth of childhood innocence. The next moment, everything was stolen from her. Her family, her home and even her safety.

From hiding in sorghum plantations with her mother, she reveals the brutal violence of Interahamwe, whose sole purpose was to exterminate all Tutsi. Guided by her eyes, we witness the terrifying reality of a child caught in the horror, struggling to survive amid cruelty and hatred.
​
But even as the terror grows, there’s a quiet strength within her and her mother—a will to live. This is a personal story of grief, vulnerability, and the long road to healing. It’s a powerful reminder to never forget the lives lost and to honor the resilience of those who survived.
The Face of Resilience (2024)
A Documentary Film
The Face of Resilience is a documentary film that delves into the extraordinary journey of resilience undertaken by the Rwandan people in the aftermath of the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi.

Through intimate conversations with Inspiring Rwandan women who are not only changing the global narrative about their country but also playing a pivotal role in building a better future for their communities, this film explores how resilience, reconciliation, and community-building have shaped the country's transformation over the past three decades. From personal anecdotes to reflections on societal progress, this film aims to illuminate the indomitable spirit of a nation that refused to be defined by its darkest hour.

Our decision to focus on Rwandan women in their thirties is deliberate. As the world commemorates 30 years since the genocide, we seek to amplify the voices of a generation that embodies both the present and the future of Rwanda. Through intimate interviews and personal anecdotes, we aim to capture their individual stories, struggles, and triumphs, which serve as a testament to the strength and resilience of our nation.

In a world grappling with numerous crises, our documentary, endeavors to offer a message of hope and courage. It’s written by Tete Loeper (Divine Gashugi), directed by Mutiganda wa Nkunda and produced by eliane Umuhire with ISI film production.

A Theater Play
„Utazi iyo ava, ntamenya iyo aja/ajya“

"Wer nicht weiß, woher er/sie kommt, weiß auch nicht, wohin er/sie geht."
Welche Wunden hat der Kolonialismus hinterlassen und welche Auswirkungen hat er auf die Gegenwart und die Zukunft? Wie können Jugendliche aus Deutschland, Ruanda und Burundi eine bessere Zukunft gestalten, ohne Schuld, ohne Hass und ohne die Wut, die von früheren Generationen weitergegeben wurde?
Die Amahoro-Schulinitiative des EPIZ Reutlingen in Zusammenarbeit mit der Theater Company Ouf aus Burundi und The Grey Stories aus Deutschland wollen einen Aufruf starten, das Bewusstsein schärfen und die junge Generation aus Burundi, Ruanda und Deutschland zusammenbringen, um ihre tragische Vergangenheit zu verstehen und eine nachhaltige Partnerschaft aufzubauen.
Ausgehend von Schulworkshops in den drei Ländern wird CARTES SUR TABLE zu einem kollektiven Theaterstück, das kritische Ideen von Jugendlichen aus den drei Ländern sammelt und durch Schauspiel, Musik und Tanz auf Bühnen in Burundi und Baden-Württemberg bringt.

Barfuß in Deutschland (2022)
A Novel
Mutoni, eine junge, gebildete Frau aus Ruanda, beschließt nach dem Tod ihrer Mutter auszuwandern. Über eine ehemalige Mitschülerin erhält sie das Angebot, nach Hamburg zu ziehen und dort einen Mann zu heiraten. Voller Zuversicht und Hoffnung auf ein besseres und wohlhabenderes Leben begibt sie sich auf den Weg nach Deutschland. Doch bereits kurz nach ihrer Ankunft zeigt sich, dass ihre Erwartungen nicht erfüllt werden: Ihre Unwissenheit führt sie in die Zwangsprostitution. Und selbst als es ihr gelingt, dieser Gewalt zu entfliehen und in Süddeutschland neue Wege einzuschlagen, bleibt ihr Leben in der ungewohnten und fremden Umgebung voller Demütigungen und Herausforderungen. Die Erfahrungen, die sie als Schwarze Migrantin in Deutschland alltäglich macht, führen sie schließlich zu einer unerwarteten Entscheidung.

Tete Loeper gelingt in ihrem Buch eine starke, und ergreifende Innensicht der Protagonistin, die verdeutlicht, wie schwer es ist, in Deutschland anzukommen und Fuß zu fassen. Dabei wird die Konfrontation mit Vorurteilen, die Negierung einer persönlichen Identität und die Enttäuschung eindrücklich nachvollziehbar, die viele Menschen mit Migrationsgeschichte erleben, wenn ihre idealisierten Vorstellungen an der Realität scheitern. Darüber hinaus zeigt sie aus der Perspektive einer ruandischen Frau den Alltagsrassismus in Deutschland auf.

»Loeper gibt hier einen Ansatz von Vorstellungen weiter, die niemand aktiv erleben möchte, der leider jedoch immer noch Alltag für viele ist. Gleichzeitig ist es der Autorin in prägnanter Sprache gelungen, auf wenigen Seiten ihrer Protagonistin eine gewisse Wandlungsfähigkeit angedeien zu lassen, die weit über das hinaus geht, was sich anfangs erahnen lässt.« Buechertreff.de

Burundi and Rwanda have long used poetic storytelling as an effective form of communication between national borders. Unfortunately, due to the current political situation, there is very little artistic collaboration between Rwanda and Burundi to inspire youth to maintain this intercultural connection.
How can Burundian and Rwandan youth discuss their past with positive but also critical empathy in order to create a better, interculturally connected future for generations to come? What decolonial steps should Germany take to reunite these countries through art?
UN:IMAGINABLE (2022)

UN:IMAGINABLE is an extraordinary theater production that emerged from the lived reality of trauma, war, exclusion and exile. The genocides of the 1990s in Rwanda and the Balkans shook the world - and are still among the bloodiest events in modern history. The reports and stories about it have lost nothing of their importance. Many people fled their home country at the time and some of them have been living in Germany ever since, which was given the status of “paradise”.

Society is stuck in suppressed fear and hatred leading to further conflicts while in denial of histories untold. UN:IMAGINABLE mirrors the banality of evil and its connection to everyday, mundane life and deals with the hour prior to death in the lives of victims and perpetrators.

UN:IMAGINABLE is a transnational documentary musical theater exploring various forms of healing within spheres of repetitive histories, war, genocide and existence in disapora. Following the intense weeks of sharing, exchanging and learning, more than 20 people across 6 countries collectively contribute to a new media and offline experience with narratives told that are essentially human.
